Fans Urge Arrest of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of the pop star are calling for that a man who breached a fence and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating footage reveals the individual from Australia pushing past media personnel and lunging at Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though official papers revealed that he was scheduled to appear on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a performance. His Instagram account contains videos of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney show in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is clearly a punishable act," commented an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user remarked.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Many fans criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the finale of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
A number of supporters also criticised event staff at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while some requested digital services to block Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande looked shocked when she was touched by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of fans had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international debut in a Singapore venue, including several who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the sequel of a two-film adaptation of the popular Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely friendship between two distinct witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen award recognitions, earning several for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
