If not for committing turnover errors a manageable matchup versus the Steelers, they’d be sitting at 9–1 with the top standing. In the prior year, they seemed veteran and plodding. Currently they're youthful, quick and confident. Still, it’s hard to ignore how soft the Patriots’ schedule has been. They've encountered the easiest slate in the league, yet vulnerabilities remain. Drake Maye has been sacked 35 times – ranking second league-wide – and some of the shots he absorbed on Sunday proved brutal. Over time, those beatings accumulate.

Denver Broncos

Denver stands at eight wins similarly, yet it seems like they're nervously waiting. Bo Nix has performed unevenly, with the attack struggling, while the defensive unit provides the majority of the work. Lacking competent QB performance, the Broncos won't frighten playoff opponents. The Chargers are also hovering within their division at 7-2, but the injuries within their blocking corps will create difficulties for extended playoff success.

Pittsburgh Situation

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh exists, surprisingly atop their division despite being thumped 25-10 by the Chargers on Sunday night. They have a negative point differential, their defense regularly vanishes, and Aaron Rodgers’ limitations during his career phase persistently appear. They’re 5–4 and holding on, but Baltimore, with their QB returning to health and facing easier opponents, have won three consecutive. This development isn't entirely shocking that Baltimore has closed within a game of the Steelers, but that it has arrived so quickly is an indictment of Pittsburgh's fluctuating form. Considering the Ravens opened with a 1-5 record and still look like they should win the division speaks volumes regarding the entire AFC.

Established Contenders

The Ravens represent a segment among three elite teams – joined by Buffalo and Kansas City – fueled by former MVP signal-callers, that would continue to generate the highest anxiety for opponents should they reach postseason. They’re the No One Wants To See ‘Em teams, yet Kansas City and Buffalo continue to self-destruct.

Buffalo Bills

Last week, the Bills felt confident following victory over Kansas City. On Sunday they suffered a particularly discouraging setback of the season.
