Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I sense the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase such as this with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
